Woman Buys Herself Anonymous Drinks On First Dates To Give Illusion She’s In Demand

When it comes to first dates, there are a lot of etiquettes that people follow in order to give their date the best first impression.

But have you ever considered sending yourself anonymous drinks to show your date just how popular you are? One woman on TikTok did, and not only has her story gone viral, but it's also sparked a debate.

You're out at a bar one night with friends and having a good time. All of a sudden, a server brings you a free drink and says it's courtesy of a man who's interested in you. This has happened to many of us before, and it's a pretty great feeling.

But have you ever considered buying your own anonymous drink to get their attention? One woman on TikTok did.

Sofia explains that when she's on a first date and briefly leaves to go to the bathroom, what she's actually doing is paying the bartender to send her an "anonymous" shot. This way, her date realizes that Sofia has other "options" and believes she's in demand.

In a comment, Sofia also said that she's sent herself flowers once or twice before too, and the tactic can work in many situations.

Sofia's TikTok quickly went viral and soon thousands of users were chiming in with their thoughts, proving the whole issue of her first date trick to be quite polarizing.

On the one hand, many users thought the anonymous shot idea was brilliant and said they were saving that trick up their sleeves for later. Another woman said she'd actually tried this hack before while on a date and were pleasantly surprised by the results.

Another user thought it was a clever hack for women to test if their date is possessive. In response to criticism that it's deceiving, other users said it's only ensuring a person knows their worth, while at the same time is making sure their date knows they can't walk all over them.

"She can own up to it later. No one is honest on the first date. They hide different percentages of themselves depending on the person," one person wrote.

Other users, however, were less keen on Sofia's first-date trick and thought it was toxic red-flag behavior. They argued that the gesture lacks self-respect and Sofia might claim she has "options", but if she's resorting to buying herself shots, then her options must be fairly limited.

"Narcissistic and manipulative…can't say jealously is the best basis of a relationship," one user wrote.

Other people decided to turn the tables around. While many people are praising Sofia, they wonder how she would have felt if the roles were reversed and it was a man doing that instead. Others said she shouldn't be surprised when her dates eventually learn about her behavior and don't call back.

"Men have options as well, don't assume you’re the only one he’s interested in," one user wrote.
