Do Nice Guys Actually Finish Last? New Reality Dating Show ‘FBoy Island’ Wants To Find Out
If the summer heat already has you feeling hot and bothered, then perhaps a new reality dating show that takes place on a Caribbean island will help cool you off.
Three women try to find love among two dozen self-proclaimed nice guys and F-boys. What’s at stake? The chance at true love, and a $100,000 cash prize.
The Dreaded F-Boy
Ladies, we’ve all met them before. They’re handsome, charismatic, and think they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread. While they won’t commit, they also can’t stay away from women and they play your emotions like a violin. I’m talking about the dreaded “f*** boy.”
So what if you were to drop a group of F-boys, nice guys, and women looking for love onto a tropical island together? Well, HBO Max asked themselves the same question.
It’s Getting Hot In Here
Streaming on HBO Max on July 29, “FBoy Island” will see three women move to a tropical island, and will be joined by 12 “nice guys” looking for love and 12 “F-boys” who are competing for cash as cold as their attitudes toward women and as hard as their abs, according to the press release from WarnerMedia.
The women have to navigate the dating pool with the goal of finding true love and figure out who’s who. By the finale, the identities of who are the nice guys and who are the F-boys, and who the women ultimately chose, will be revealed.
Meet The Contestants
So what do we know about the contestants? First off, they hail from all over the United States. The three women—Sarah Emig, Nakia Renee, and CJ Franco—are between 25–30 years old and their backgrounds include content creation, hair and makeup stylist, and social media manager, according to People Magazine.
The 24 men competing also have diverse backgrounds, ranging in age from 22–35 years old, and their careers are just as encompassing. From firefighters to real estate agents, models, entrepreneurs, and even a cryptocurrency guru, the men’s backgrounds are just as eclectic as the women’s. (Prepare to hear them say "bro" and "bruh" a lot. You've been warned.)
What Else Viewers Can Expect
The reality dating series will consist of 10 episodes and was filmed earlier this year in the Cayman Islands. So what else can viewers expect?
Well, Jennifer O’Connell, Executive Vice President, Non-Fiction and Live-Action Family at HBO Max said the show is “an incredibly entertaining dating show full of twists and turns that will leave the audience constantly guessing.” Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max added that “we are especially excited for viewers to watch these strong women, guided by the hilarious Nikki Glaser, team together and empower each other to say 'F-Boy, F-Bye.'”
Behind-The-Scenes Details
The series is produced by STXalternative and was created by Elan Gale, the brains behind "The Bachelor" franchise. Serving as showrunner will be Sam Dean, who you might recognize from "Love Is Blind."
"FBoy Island" will be hosted by actress and comedian Nikki Glaser. “When I first got the call to be a part of a reality dating show called 'FBOY ISLAND,' I said yes immediately. Then I realized they weren’t asking me to be one of the girls looking for love,” she said. “But as a massive fan of this genre, hosting this show was a true dream. I look forward to hosting for the next 43 seasons.”
Nice Guy Or F-Boy?
While it’s not known yet how the women will go about figuring out who's who or how the 12 F-boys might win the cash prize, there is a lot at stake for everyone involved: true love or $100,000.
“'FBOY ISLAND' is a social experiment that asks the age-old question: Can FBoys truly reform or do Nice Guys always finish last?” Are these men as sweet as candy be or as prickly and shady as a pineapple? Only time will tell.
What Twitter Is Saying
The show hasn’t premiered yet, but Twitter is already abuzz with what’s being touted as TV viewers’ next guilty pleasure.
If "FBoy Island" is truly going to be as iconic as "The Sopranos," then the show needs to end mid-sentence right before the results are revealed. Just a piece of advice, HBO.

It’s not hard to imagine why the concept is getting people talking. All women have experience with F-boys, and now we get to see them free in their natural habitat (which apparently is a tropical island), doing what they do best.
"FBoy Island" recently opened a Twitter account to promote the show, and only a few tweets in, I can already see that it’s going to be a coconut crab-sized hot mess.
Wet N’ Wild
I mean, with cash and true love thrown into the mix, how can a show filled with horny 20- and 30-somethings possibly go wrong? (Although I am jealous that they get to live on a tropical island, presumably with all the free-flowing alcohol they can drink, while I sit at my desk in my home office, sans alcohol.)
In a world where reality TV dating shows are everyone’s favorite guilty pleasure and the concepts are getting more and more creative, "FBoy Island" is sure to make waves.
