Maree Felt "Dehumanized" By Harrison's Act Of Kindness
In fact, one of Harrison’s most recent random acts of kindness is receiving backlash.
“Why?” You might ask because the elderly woman - Maree - in the video felt dehumanized by the situation.
In the video, Maree is drinking a coffee when she is approached by Harrison, who is holding a bouquet of flowers.
He stops and asks her to hold the bouquet.
Harrison Gives Maree A Bouquet Of Flowers
“Sorry to bother you, is it ok if you can just hold these?” Harrison says to Maree.
He then kneels down, goes into his backpack, takes out his coat, and walks off saying, “Have a nice day!”
The video makes the viewer swell with emotions as sad music plays.
And Maree has a look of gratitude on her face mixed with sadness - maybe crying a tear of happiness?
At First The TikTok Community Loved The Video...
At first, commenters were crying with Maree, they were crying with her. And that they would love to receive flowers too.
To date, the video has received over 66 million views.
Maree's Side Of The Story
But this is where the heartwarming story takes a turn.
After some time, Maree went to media outlets and told her side of the story, telling them she felt dehumanized by the encounter.
These Are Not Random Acts Of Kindness
“At first it was a bit of a joke to me and then I’ve sort of felt dehumanised,” Maree said.
“These artificial things are not random acts of kindness really.”
It Needs To Be Challenged
She continued her argument by saying,
“It's really not about me anymore. I just think this whole idea that this is a random act of kindness is to be challenged.”
Unwillingly Video Taped
Maree had noticed Harrison’s friend filming the interaction and asked the boys, “Did you film that?”
Harrison and his friend said “No,” But, obviously, they lied, and that wasn't the case.
"Who Watches These Things?"
Some articles came out calling Maree out of touch.
But Maree did not care because she doesn’t have any social media. “I thought, “oh well, who watches these things.”
Harrison's friend added a comment.
“Harrison whole-heartedly apologizes to Maree if she was offended by what he did and urges her to contact him privately so he can personally apologize.”
He'll Take Down The Video If Maree Asks
He continued, “If she requests him to take down the video, he will do that.”
“He does not want something designed to spread love and compassion to cause anyone concern.”
