It might sound like the plot of a sitcom, but for one woman, it has played out in real life and totally affected her relationship.
The anonymous woman posted her situation in the popular r/AmITheA**hole thread on Reddit.
The Couple Have Been Dating For Nearly Four Months
She begins the post by explaining that she and her boyfriend, John, have been dating for nearly four months.
Up until now, it’s been smooth sailing and they have “gotten along wonderfully except for this past issue.”
She Told Him She Was A Vegan On Their First Date
“When we went out to dinner for the first time, I told him I was vegan when ordering my dish and he just kind of went “oh, cool” and started talking about something else. “
Her vegan diet never really came up again after that.
She Never Actively Tried To Hide That She Was Making Plant-Based Dishes
Even though she and John never openly discussed her dietary preferences again, each time he came to her house for lunch or dinner she prepared plant-based meals for the two of them.
OP adds “I’ve never tried to actively hide this from him.”

For example, “When he asked what we were having [for dinner] I’d say things like “burgers” and I assumed that he knew it would naturally be something like impossible burgers.”

Things took a turn over the holidays when they decided to stay home together and have a low-key homemade meal.

In the show they were watching, one contestant prepared a dish using a meat alternative.
“John commented how he hated when dishes pretended to be meat when it was plant-based and it was deceptive and gross and he would never eat that.”
OP Was Confused By His Reaction And Explained The Situation
Naturally, OP was extremely confused. She pointed out that he had eaten imitation meat several times.
He learned that their lasagna from dinner that night had been “entirely vegan with fake meat.”
He Was Shocked To Learn He Had Eaten Multiple Vegan Meals
Even more shocking to John was finding out that “every time he’s eaten at [his girlfriend’s] place it has been a vegan dish.”

“He said I should have disclosed that none of the food I ever made contained meat. He finished it by saying he would come over only if I apologized for lying to him.”
Basically, John gave her an ultimatum instead of an apology.

OP responded to his demand for an apology by saying that she didn’t lie and didn’t owe him an apology.
She told him he was being “stupid and childish” but he never responded to her message, leaving them in a weird stand-off.
