Man Freaks Out On Vegan Girlfriend For ‘Tricking’ Him Into Eating Plant-Based Diet

Most people would be pleasantly surprised to learn that they had unwittingly been eating a healthier diet without any extra effort.

As it turns out, not everyone would be so open to the idea.

A Woman Has Asked Social Media For Opinions

The only issue is that she never intended it to be a secret.

The Original Post Was On Reddit’s AmITheA**hole

It might sound like the plot of a sitcom, but for one woman, it has played out in real life and totally affected her relationship.

The anonymous woman posted her situation in the popular r/AmITheA**hole thread on Reddit.

The Couple Have Been Dating For Nearly Four Months

Up until now, it’s been smooth sailing and they have “gotten along wonderfully except for this past issue.”

She Told Him She Was A Vegan On Their First Date

“When we went out to dinner for the first time, I told him I was vegan when ordering my dish and he just kind of went “oh, cool” and started talking about something else. “

Her vegan diet never really came up again after that.

She Never Actively Tried To Hide That She Was Making Plant-Based Dishes

Even though she and John never openly discussed her dietary preferences again, each time he came to her house for lunch or dinner she prepared plant-based meals for the two of them.

OP adds “I’ve never tried to actively hide this from him.”

She Thought He Knew She Was Using Meat Alternative Products

For example, “When he asked what we were having [for dinner] I’d say things like “burgers” and I assumed that he knew it would naturally be something like impossible burgers.”

At this point, he’s starting to seem a little aloof. It’s also clear he wasn’t helping prepare any meals.

“John commented how he hated when dishes pretended to be meat when it was plant-based and it was deceptive and gross and he would never eat that.”

OP Was Confused By His Reaction And Explained The Situation

Naturally, OP was extremely confused. She pointed out that he had eaten imitation meat several times.

He learned that their lasagna from dinner that night had been “entirely vegan with fake meat.”

He Was Shocked To Learn He Had Eaten Multiple Vegan Meals

Even more shocking to John was finding out that “every time he’s eaten at [his girlfriend’s] place it has been a vegan dish.”

Most people would be surprised to learn they had been eating a plant-based diet, but John was immediately angry.

He Accused Her Of Forcing Her Diet On Him

He accused his girlfriend of “tricking him into eating something he found disgusting” and also of “forcing” her diet on him.

John argued that this was the same as if he had tricked his girlfriend into eating meat.

The Fight Resulted In Him Leaving

OP told her boyfriend that it wasn’t at all the same because she had a moral opposition to eating meat, but “nobody was morally opposed to eating plants.”

Unfortunately, this led to more arguing and him leaving her apartment. He hasn’t returned since.

Days Later He Was Still Hot-Headed About The Issue

Days after the fight, OP reached out to her boyfriend to see if he had cooled down.

John told his girlfriend that he was “disappointed” she would “tamper with his food” and also that this had been a “serious betrayal of his trust.”

He Told Her She Needed To Apologize (Lol)

“He said I should have disclosed that none of the food I ever made contained meat. He finished it by saying he would come over only if I apologized for lying to him.”

Basically, John gave her an ultimatum instead of an apology.

OP responded to his demand for an apology by saying that she didn’t lie and didn’t owe him an apology.

She told him he was being “stupid and childish” but he never responded to her message, leaving them in a weird stand-off.

She also added that “This is the first major fight we’ve had and I don’t want to end such a great relationship over it.”

OP Felt LIke She Was Being Painted A Villain

“I just feel like no matter how much I try to explain my point of view he keeps trying to make me sound like a villain.”

OP added that she didn’t plan on apologizing and intended to stand her ground.

They also casually said “this guy has two brain cells left and they’re competing hard for third place.”
