Bridgerton Is Proof That Dating Literally Never Changes

Most of us have seen a show set in the Regency era and dreamed about the kind of romance that we just don’t feel we have in life anymore. We dream about balls, and social gatherings, and of living where all that’s expected of us is that we know how to cross-stitch and read. Sounds like the life, right?

Bridgerton came out and simultaneously validated and destroyed those daydreams.

In Case You’ve Been Living Under A Rock, Bridgerton Is IT, OK?

It follows the lives of some of high society in their search (or desire not to search) for love and marriage. They all speak in proper English with some kind of accent, and the clothing is ridiculous. An added bonus? There is a Gossip Girl style narrator who knows ALL THE SECRETS.

Obviously, The Cast Is Gorgeous

If you watch only to take in the beauty of the costumes and the people, then no one here is going to judge. I mean, come on. This man is the main love interest. Need I say more?

But, Bridgerton Also Shows Us Something Else

It seems that, at least in the world of fiction, the dating world has always been pretty much the same. There had to be a reason we found it so relatable and interesting, right?

For Starters, Men Have All These Dumb Rules

Like Simon, who is like, “I’m never having kids because I hate my dad.” That is literally an excuse that we ladies still hear in this day and age. I’m not downplaying the fact that some people have terrible childhoods, they do, but come on.

That Weird Possessive Thing Anothony Has For His Sister?

There seems to be this notion that a woman can’t look out for herself. Yes, it’s important to speak up when you see something bad going down, but in Bridgerton and in life, you have to chill. She’s not anyone’s property.

There Is Still So Much To Learn

It seems that no matter how much experience someone might have, or how much experience they lack, there still seems to be so much to learn about sex. How is it so complicated?

Sometimes We Meet Someone Who Seems Perfect

When you first start getting to know someone, it seems like they’re perfect and they can do no wrong. You feel like the luckiest person around, but guess what? It’s an illusion!!

They Come Up With The Dumbest Stuff

Men will always have the dumbest reasons for not dating you. They’ll always tell you that they respect you too much and care about you too much to actually date you because they’re so damaged.

Find You A Man Who Can Do Both

The main goal of dating anyone is finding yourself a man who can do both. Someone who can be your daddy but also be a strong and supportive man who is open about his feelings, too.

When You’re Looking For Someone, Why Do They All Look The Same?

Alright, is it just me, or when you’re swiping through your dating app or out at a bar, do all the guys kind of look the same? Same haircut, slight variations of the same outfit, etc.

How Could You Possibly Choose?

Isn’t it the worst when you have to choose between two people who are into you? Especially if there are things about them that you like? It makes it even worse when they are friends.

We Could All Use A Little Therapy

Anytime you speak to a man, it becomes increasingly obvious that they need therapy because of the rules society has placed on them or the things they have done to themselves because of their childhood or whatever.

Some Women Just Don’t Want To Date

In every person’s life, there is someone who is content to just hate on dating and never wants to be with someone again. We have to admire their strong sense of self.

Some Couples Just Belong Together

We can talk smack about dating all that we want, but when it comes down to it, there are just some people who seem like they should totally be together forever. So I guess love is real?

Not Every Attractive Person Is Conventionally Attractive

It’s time to give a shout-out to the people in our lives who are adorable because of how awkward they are. There is something that’s just so charming about that, isn’t there?

They All Want What They Can’t Have

Tweet: Kate Sheffield: I do not like you. Anthony Bridgerton: (pictured is Kylie Jenner holding her stomach saying,

Anthony was such a jerk to Kate. He totally used her and didn’t decide that she was going to be good enough for him until she decided to move on.

Sometimes You Have To Put Them In Their Place

Tweet: What's the first thing you notice when a man stares at you? Eloise Bridgerton: The audacity

One thing that we can appreciate about Eloise is that she was one of the only women who had no problem putting men in their place. That’s something that we should all still be working on.

Urgh, The Guys Who Won’t Take No For An Answer

Tweet: Lord Berbrooke cause he just can't take no for an answer (pictured is a person with a mask on looking mad)

The worst kinds of guys are the guys who won’t take no for an answer. They never leave you alone. That or they just get into the worst kind of mood after you tell them you don’t want to do what they want.

Where Is The Romance?

If there is one thing that Bridgerton did, it’s that it made us all long for that special kind of romance that you don’t get from guys these days. It’s all texts at 2 a.m. asking what you’re doing.

Why Are They All So Sensitive?

Men like to think they’re all tough until you do something that bruises their ego, like not knowing who the Duke of Hastings is when you meet him for the very first time.
