Woman’s Tweet About A Medical Professional Who Asked Her Out Has Twitter Fired Up

When you go see any kind of medical professional, you expect them to act a certain way. You want them to have a good bedside manner, you want them to be respectful, and then you want to leave them in the doctor's office.

So what happens when a medical professional finds you on social media and tries to ask you on a date?

She posted the message from someone who had taken her blood for a test a few days before and wanted to know if she wanted to go out sometime. What's your first reaction to that?

Twitter Was Divided Over Whether Or Not This Was OK

Tweet: He had the audacity to shoot his shot and try. And you outted him like that? At least he was polite about it, highly unprofessional but he put himself out there.

Some people were replying to the thread shaming her for getting angry at him for just shooting his shot and being polite, like that makes the fact that she's uncomfortable better.

Others Called BS On That

Tweet: I don't think we as a society want health care professionals who use their patient's personal information for their personal agendas, also, the at least he was polite is ridiculous, that's the bare minimum if you're interacting with any human being, not a big thing to celebrate

Being polite shouldn't stop someone from being held accountable for his actions, especially if it was something that made the patient feel like they weren't quite safe. You should be polite to everyone.

Some Thought It Was A Gray Area

Tweet: It's not appropriate what he's done but he's hardly violated you, he's just overstepped the mark and has been a bit daft. Should have cut the lad some slack and messaged him privately to say he shouldn't do that as it's against policy. Absolutely ruined someone's career now.

Was what he did OK? Well, no, but was it wrong? Some people thought not. Some people really did think that the tweet was probably going to ruin that person's career.

But, Is That Really Fair?

Tweet: She's ruined his career and must explain explain policy that he is required to know and follow as part of his job to HIM?

As someone pointed out, this violates a policy that he should have known better than to violate. In the end, it is against the rules for him to do what he did.

He Found Her On Social Media

Tweet: Her instagram name is her name. He clearly hasn't abused medical records to do this. He remembered her name. Googled her public profile and sent a message. That in itself is an ethics violation, but not a data privacy one. Your insta isn't in your medical records.

And, as it was said, her Instagram handle was her actual name, and her entire profile was public, so all he would have to do is a quick Google search of her name, which he easily could have remembered.

But That's Still Creepy

Tweet: The fact that people don't view this as wrong really concerns me. He's not only breached his patient's data protection, he's also misused her info for his own personal benefit. What if he was her reoccurring doctor, he would have completely blurred the line between professional and personal..

If this was someone that she was going to see repeatedly, that could become very uncomfortable for her. The fact that they met in the capacity that they did, in her mind, means that this is inappropriate.

She Didn't Like It, That's What Should Matter

Tweet: I'm not looking to end someone's career, I'm not. After the out burst of this tweet I'm not even sure I want to tell on him. It's just a level of privacy that has been invaded is personally worrying.

In the end, even if you want to consider it a gray area, the fact of the matter is that it made Anna uncomfortable, and that makes it truly wrong.

It Looks Like Things Have Been Resolved

Tweet: Disclaimer we've spoken he's not getting fired, he knows what he did was wrong. The amount of abuse I'm getting I'd rather not report. If this was your sister or daughter or cousin in my position imagine how you'd feel if they got some of the messages I recieved.

Unfortunately, the Twitter thread has made Anna a target for a lot of hate that she doesn't deserve. But, she did post a tweet saying the issue was resolved and that she told him this wasn't OK.

What do you think? Was he wrong to message her on Instagram?
