Woman Shocked When She’s Asked For ID While Buying Pads At The Grocery Store

Recently, a young woman named Bethany went into a store to buy some pads and was asked a really strange question by the cashier. Instead of completing the purchase as usual, she was asked to show a piece of ID for age verification.

I'm pretty sure that no woman has been asked this before while shopping for hygiene products because menstruation-related products are a necessity, not an age-restricted item like alcohol. Bethany expressed her confusion over the situation online, and women everywhere shared their opinions on what had gone down.

Bethany Margaret, a young woman from the U.K., starts the TikTok video she created to explain the situation by stating that she "has questions, BIG questions."

This is because she was asked a very strange question by a cashier and experienced something that had never happened to her before while at a grocery store.

For alcohol or certain medication with specific ingredients, getting ID'd at a store can be normal.

But it isn't normal to ID someone for a necessary, non-restricted item, such as period products.

For those who don't know, Sainsbury's is the second-largest chain of supermarkets in the United Kingdom. So why do they think they're a club or something and that can ID people left, right, and center?

People were confused and outraged, and one user informed Bethany that it's illegal to ask someone for their ID on a purchase like this.

Also, asking for an ID to purchase pads is just ridiculous—there is no "legal age" to get a period.

People had tons of theories about what had happened. Some thought it was a computer error, others thought the cashier wanted to find her on social media.

Someone claimed that it was a suspicious attempt to get her name and address. Another theory was that she was using a credit card to make the purchase, which you do indeed need to be of legal age to do.

Periods are a natural bodily function, and women cannot choose whether they want to have a period or not. It's absurd how expensive these products can be.
